Koka City, Shiga
14 March 2011

Koka City (b‰êŽs) is a city located in the southern part of Shiga Prefecture, Japan.  (The word 'Koka' is often rendered as 'Koga' in English, especially when referring to the Koga Ninja [b‰ê”EŽÒ].) As of February 1, 2011, the city has an estimated population of 92,948 and a density of 193 humans per sq km.  The total area is 481.69 sq km.  The city was founded on October 1, 2004 when the towns of Koka (b‰ê’¬), Konan (b“ì’¬), Minakuchi (…Œû’¬), Shigaraki (MŠy’¬), Tsuchiyama (“yŽR’¬), all from Koka County (b‰êŒS), merged to form the new city of Koka.
Koka is quite well known for its ninja (”EŽÒ) history, fine quality ceramics and for containing two post stations (Tsuchiyama-juku [“yŽRh] and Minakuchi-juku […Œûh]) from the historic Tokai-do (“ŒŠC“¹).  (Referred to the site of "Wikipedia.")

Shiga-Koga Ninjyutsu Yashiki
Shiga-Koga Ninjyutsu Yashiki (b‰ê—¬”Ep‰®•~) is the only surviving ninja residence in Japan.  It was built as the house of Michizuki Izumo-no-kami (–]ŒŽo‰_Žç) the head of the Fifty-three Koga Ninja Families (b‰êŒÜ\ŽO‰Æ) during the Genroku Period (Œ³˜\Žž‘ã) between 1688-1703.  It looks like an ordinary old Japanese house but it is full of ninja tricks and traps against possible enemies.  It is located at 2331 Ryuboshi, Konan-cho, Koka City (b‰êŽsb“ì’¬—³–@Žt2331).  The nearest station is JR Koka Station and it takes about 30-40 minutes on foot.
