Hioki (日置郡; -gun) was a district located in Kagoshima, Japan.  As of the merger of the town of Kimpo (金峰町) into the city of Minamisatsuma (南さつま市) the district no longer exists.
  As of July 1, 2005, the district had an estimated population of 7,927 and the density of 109.72 persons per sq. km.  The total area was sq. 72.25 km.  The present Hioki City (日置市) has an area of 253.06 sq. km and the population of 50,838 (March 1, 2010): The population density is 201 per sq. km.

	khi2010-004	(Sunday 21 March) Equestrian statue of Lord Yoshihiro Shimazu (島津義弘, 1535-1619) in front of JR Ijyuin Station (JR伊集院駅) on JR Kagoshima-honsen Line (JR鹿児島本線), Ijyuin-cho, Hioki City.  He once conquered the whole Kyushu District with his elder brother Yoshihisa Shimazu (島津義久, 1533-1611), but they surrendered Hideyoshi Toyotomi (豊臣秀吉) and ruled the Osumi Peninsula (大隅半島).  At Hideyoshi's command, his troops sailed to the Korean Peninsula in 1592 and 1597 (文禄・慶長の役) and won many battles with Korean army.  However, he fought for Mitsunairi Ishida (石田三成) at the Battle of Sekigahara (関ヶ原の戦い) in 1600.  After running away from Sekigahara, he asked Yoshihisa to enter priesthood.
