Keitoku-zan Ankoku-ji Temple
Keitoku-zan Ankoku-ji Temple (Œi“ΏŽR ˆΐ‘Ž›) is located at 1 Teranodan, Ankokuji-cho, Ayabe City, Kyoto (‹ž“s•{ˆ»•”Žsˆΐ‘Ž›’¬Ž›ƒm’i1).  It was founded as Kofuku-ji Temple (Œυ•ŸŽ›) with the wooden statue of "Koyasu-jizo Bosatsu" (Žqˆΐ’n‘ •μŽF; the Patron of Pregnant Women) made by Eshin-sozu Genshin [ŒbS‘m“s ŒΉM] in the 4th year of Shoryaku (³—ο4”N) or AD 993.  It became the family temple of the Uesugi family (γ™Ž), the ruling family of the area formerly called as Uesugi-sho (γ™‘‘).  In the Muromachi Period, it was renamed as the present name, as the first one of the Sixty-six Ankoku-ji Risho-to (ˆΐ‘Ž› —˜Ά“ƒ) built by the Ashikaga Shogunate across Japan.  The temple is sacred to the three seated images of the Shakyamuni triad (Žί‰ήŽO‘ΈΏ‘œ) made by Goen (‹‰~) in 1339.  Takauji Ashikaga (‘«—˜‘ΈŽ, 1305-1358), the first Shogun (r.1338-1358) of the Muromachi Shogunate government (ŽΊ’¬–‹•{) is said to have been born here in the 3rd year of Kagen (‰ΓŒ³3”N) or 1305.  It belongs to the Rinzai-shu Tofuku-ji-ha sect (—ՍϏ@“Œ•ŸŽ›”h) of Zen Buddhism.
