Moneygall (Muine Gall), County Offaly, Ireland
4 August, 2009

Moneygall (Irish: Muine Gall, meaning "thicket of foreigners") is a small village in County Offaly, Ireland, on the N7 route between Dublin and Limerick, on the County Tipperary/Offaly border.  While the village is located in County Offaly, the Gaelic Athletic Association playing field is located in County Tipperary.  At the 2006 census, the village had a population of 298.  Moneygall has a Roman Catholic church, five shops, a post office, a national school, a Garda Siochana station and two pubs.  The nearest Church of Ireland, Church, Borrisnafarney is located 1.5 miles from the village beside the former Loughton Demense.  (Quoted from the site of "Wikipedia")

This Moneygall page features the old home of Fulmoth Kearney, the great-great-great grandfather of the 44th United States President Barack Obama.  It was a wonderful surprise for me that he has an Irish connection in his mother's side.  Although I am neither an American nor Irish, I support the president since I heard the news that President Obama urged nations to get rid of nuclear weapons, saying that the U.S. is committed to reducing nuclear stocks within the next four years according to CNN.com's news story "Obama calls for reduction in nuclear weapons" (April 5, 2009).

On October 9, 2009, President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for his gextraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.h  The award, announced in Oslo by the Nobel Committee while much of official Washington -- including the president -- was still asleep, cited in particular the presidentfs efforts to rid the world of nuclear weapons, as the New York Times reports in the article "Obama Says Hefs eHumbledf and eSurprisedf by Nobel Prize" (October 9, 2009).

Some people think that it was too early to give the surprising honor to the new president who only called for world peace and has done actually nothing to deserve the prize yet in spite of other numerous potential candidates with great achievements.  The world is watching you, Mr. Obama, in hope of the realization of the world without nuclear weapons.

Fulmoth Kearney's Home

Fulmoth Kearney (1832 - March 21, 1878), the great-great-great grandfather of the 44th United States President Barack Hussein Obama II (Aug. 4, 1961 - ;p.2009-), emigrated from Moneygall to New York City at the age of 19 in 1850 and eventually resettled in Tipton County, Indiana.  Kearney's father, Joseph Kearney (b. ca. 1794 - Oct. 30, 1861, US), had been the village shoemaker, then a wealthy skilled trade.  Indeed the whole Kearney family emigrated to Ross County, Ohio in the first half of the 19th century.  Fulmoth Kearney's youngest daughter, Mary Ann (Sept. 19, 1869 - Aug. 13, 1936),* moved from Indiana to Kansas after her father's death in 1878.  Mary Ann Kearney (Sept. 19, 1869 - Aug.13, 1936) is the paternal grandmother of Stanley Armour Dunham (March 3, 1918 - Feb.8, 1992), President Obama's maternal grandfather.
Stanley Ann Dunham (Nov. 29, 1942 - Nov. 7, 1995) was born on November 29, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas, to Madelyn Payne (b. Oct. 1922-) and Stanley Armour Dunham (March 3, 1918 - Feb. 8, 1992).  Both of her parents were born in Kansas, met in Wichita, and married on May 5, 1940.  Born in Kansas, Ann Dunham spent her childhood in California, Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas and her teenage years in Mercer Island, Washington, and much of her adult life in Hawaii and Indonesia.  Dunham enrolled at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.  While attending a Russian language class, Dunham met Barack Obama, Sr. (1936 - Nov. 24, 1982), the school's first African student.  At the age of 23, Obama had come to Hawaii to pursue his education, leaving behind a pregnant wife and infant son in his hometown of Nyangfoma Kogelo in Kenya. Dunham and Obama were married on the Hawaiian island of Maui on February 2, 1961, despite parental opposition from both families.  Dunham was three months pregnant at the time of her marriage.  Obama Sr. eventually informed Dunham about his first marriage in Kenya, but claimed he was divorced.  Years later, she would discover this was false.  Obama Sr.'s first wife, Kezia Aoko (also known as Kezia Obama: b. c.1940 - ), later said she had granted her consent for him to marry a second wife, in keeping with Luo customs.
On August 4, 1961, at the age of 18, Dunham gave birth to her first child, Barack Obama II.  By January 1962, she had enrolled at the University of Washington, and was living as a single mother in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle with her son while her husband continued his studies in Hawaii.  Dunham filed for divorce in Honolulu in January 1964.  Obama Sr. did not contest, and the divorce was granted.  In 1982, Obama Sr. was killed in an car accident.  (Referred to the related sites of "Wikipedia")
Probably people around Dunham and Obama Sr. would have considered that their marriage was reckless at that time; Nobody would have imagined that their son becomes the first African American to hold the White House in the future.  Their marriage was turned out to have been a most significant marriage of World History.

*On March 1, 1890, Fulmoth's daughter Mary Ann Kearney (Sept. 19, 1869 - Aug. 13, 1936) married Jacob William Dunham (Feb. 7, 1863 - Aug. 13, 1936) who had the ancestors named Samuel Hinckley (d. 1662) and Sarah Soole Hinckley (d. Aug. 18, 1656) of 17th century Massachusetts, who are also the ancestors of the 43rd US President George W. Bush.  Consequently, Obama and Bush share the same great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandparents: They are amazingly 11th cousins!
