(Saturday 12 June) Statue of "The Venerable Matt Talbot (1856 - 1925)" at the south end of the Talbot Memorial Bridge, City Quay.
The Venerable Matt Talbot (2 May 1856 - 7 June 1925) was an Irish ascetic who is revered by many Catholics for his piety, charity and mortification of the flesh. Talbot was an unskilled labourer. Though he lived alone for most of his life, Talbot did live with his mother for a time. His life would have gone unnoticed were it not for the cords and chains discovered on his body when he died suddenly on a Dublin street in 1925. Though he is not a Saint, American Catholics have listed him as a patron saint for alcoholics. (Referred to the site of "Wikipedia") |

(Saturday 19 June) Chair erected in memory of Dermot Morgan (best known as "Father Ted Crilly of Craggy Island") in Merrion Square.
After the recording of the third series of Father Ted had been completed, Morgan intended to work on a new comedy series, based around two retired football players living in a small flat together. However, on February 28, 1998, 24 hours after finishing the recording of the last episode of Father Ted, while hosting a dinner party at his home in Dublin, Morgan collapsed and died of a heart attack. He was 45. The plaque to one side reads: DERMOT MORGAN 1952-1998 WRITER, SATIRIST, ACTOR, COMIC ...and the rest is laughter laughter liberating laughter to be remembered ERECTED WITH THE GENEROUS ASSISTANCE OF RTE AND DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL |
