The "Parable of the Plums"

[U 07] "Parable of Plums," O'Connell Street.  The "Parable of the Plums," from the Aeolus episode of Ulysses, tells of two elderly Dublin women who climb Nelson's Pillar and spit plum stones on the citizens below.
The new "Parable of The Plums" was performed before ten thousands of people at the site of Nelson's Pillar in O'Connell Street.  This unique event (inspired by the goings-on of two colorful Dublin women in Ulysses) included over 170 performers containing professional artists along with the best of amateur drama containing local community groups and groups from the Nigerian, Chinese and Brazilian communities.  The parade performers mingle with actors and musicians to create a spectacular hour-long event -- a heady mix of extraordinary masks, costumes, giant puppets, percussion, fire, circus tricksters, street-performers, and a medley of sights and sounds from 1904 Dublin.   The event comprised of three parades that flowed from the surrounding city streets to merge on-stage at O'Connell Street-an evening of street entertainment followed that would make old Mr. Joyce himself feel as proud as a plum!

Directed by Brian Fleming of De jimbe
  Featuring Music by Trevor Knight
  Design by Kieran MacNulty
Drama direction Raymond Keane of Barabbas
Parades Director Bisi Adigun of Arambe
Funded and supported by ReJoyce, The Joyce Centre

"Elijah Walks: The Ghost of the Prophet"

[U 12, etc.] "Elijah Walks: The Ghost of the Prophet."  This event is a celebration of James Joyce's Ulysses as part of ReJoyce Dublin 2004 celebrating Bloomsday 100.  "Elijah Walks: The Ghost of The Prophet" consists of a commissioned video piece by Sean Hillen and Raymond Keane, "Elijah Walks: The Ghost of The Prophet," which was projected onto the buildings along Wellington Quay.  That night the architecture of the area became a canvas on which they projected moving images that celebrate the work of Joyce.
