Zamek Trebon (Trebon Chateau) Masarykovo namesti v Treboni (Masaryk square in Trebon) |
Trebon (German: Wittingau) is a historical town in South Bohemian Region of Czech Republic (near the Austrian border). The population stands at 8,839 (2005) and it has an area of 98.33 sq km (37.97 sq mi)
Trebon was established around the middle of the twelfth century. In 1366 the House of Rozmberk become owner of the estate. The period of greatest growth for the town dates to the second half of the fifteenth century when Petr IV of Rozmberk (1462 - 1523) seriously began to take care of the land. The district became famous as a fish pond farming area. From 1611 the Houses of Habsburg and Schwarzenberg were owners of the town and the estate. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries the city's importance decreased.
Trebon is a tourist destination, and this is major economic activity of the area along with agriculture, spa industry and services. The 1991 Czech TV series Uzemi bilych kralu (German: Das Geheimnis der weissen Hirsche/The Territory of White Deer) was filmed in Trebon. There is State Regional Archive for South Bohemia used for example for genealogical studies about people born in the South Bohemian Region. In Trebon each May is held International Festival of Animated Films called ANIFEST. (Referred to the site of "Wikipedia")

Zamek Trebon (Trebon Chateau) was built in the late fourteenth century by the Rozmberks and was later acquired by the Schwarzenbergs. Fire destroyed much of the original Gothic castle but it was rebuilt and reconstructed several times and now much of what visitors will see was constructed in the early 1600s. The castle contains some of the regions most important archives, which were originally held by the Rozmberks. Photos and filming are not allowed in the castle. | |
